Linn Church Celebrates 175 YEARS Serving Geneva Lake Area Communities

2019 Anniversary Year Offers Full Calendar of Events for Area Residents of All Ages

(Town of Linn, Lake Geneva, WI)  The year was 1844.  Samuel Morse sent the first electric telegram, James Polk was elected the 11th . President of the United States, and George Williams (of Wisconsin college fame) founded the worldwide YMCA organization…It was also the year that Linn Presbyterian Church was founded!

Located near the shores of Lake Geneva, Linn Church (as it is referenced locally) is one of only a handful of regional churches that can claim such a long, strong history.  In following, 2019 will be a year filled with celebratory events at the Church, all open to the community-at-large.  Some of the church’s outreach programs – like the Linn Kidds free after-school childcare program for area families held on Wednesdays and early school release days – will also welcome expanded participation by area residents and other community partners this year.

Among the community-wide events for the first half of the Church’s 175th anniversary year:

The more traditional music-filled Easter service is held in the Sanctuary at 10am.   Enjoy a free and festive brunch and refreshments in Fellowship Hall between the services, from 9-10 a.m.…. ALSO, families with young children won’t want to miss the free Eggstra-Special Easter Egg Hunt held on the church grounds on April 20.  (Call church at 262-248-1588 for hunt details and to register children – so there are enough eggs for all!)

May 3 and 4 – Rummage Extravaganza

Linn Church’s widely-renowned rummage sale, which originated as an auction, has been going strong in one form or another for 65 years!  Many hundreds of shoppers come from throughout the Lakes area and Illinois border communities for this two-day shopping extravaganza – which ends with the amazing Fill-A-Bag-for-$5 event!  The sale offers buildings full of deep deals on furniture, accessories, clothes for adults and kids, toys, holiday decorations, household goods, fine “treasures” and more.  Every cent supports the operations and outreach of Linn Church  (Rummage donations are also welcomed throughout the year – call the church office at 262-248-1588 for drop-off/pick up details.)

The Church’s June to December anniversary program of public events is still being finalized at presstime, but current plans include a vintage car and tractor show, old-fashioned ice cream social and the Fabulous Fall Rummage Sale.  Check the church website for details as they come.

Linn Church’s services are held on Sundays at 10 a.m. throughout the year, led by Pastor Terry Hennesy.  Self-described as “A Traditional Church with a Contemporary Vision”, the Church invites people of all ages and backgrounds to attend and enjoy its inspirational services, creative programs and engaging musical performances.  For more information on any or all events, visit the church website at, or call the church offices directly at 262-248-1588.
